Naples Orchid Society Announces Two Named Orchid Show Awards

The Naples Orchid Society Board of Directors is pleased to announce that it has approved two additional named awards for the annual spring orchid show. The show features a number of exhibits of floral arrangements using cut orchid flowers, containers of orchid plants and table top displays of a variety of orchids. In addition, individual pots of orchid plants also are given awards by American Orchid Society judges.

The Nancy Ginocchio Grand Champion Award for Best Flower of Show will honor past president of the society, Nancy Ginocchio. She led the Society for a number of years, helping the organization make the transition from the Conservancy auditorium to the Moorings Presbyterian Church. She also initiated a number of innovative projects including putting ‘orphaned’ and donated orchids in trees at the Naples Zoo and in the Garden of Hope and Courage, also at several hospices. Nancy began the scholarship program and encouraged many individuals to participate on her board of directors who have contributed greatly to the success of the Society.

The Dr. Richard Pippen Award for Best Hybrid with Brasso nodosa Breeding in the Show will honor current president Dick Pippen for his contributions over the years. Dick has developed and conducted the annual Culture Class on orchids. This is an annual six-week workshop that teaches participants about caring for orchids and the cultural needs of popular genera of hybrid orchid plants. Dick also has served as chair of the annual orchid show and sale for a number of years.
